Imphal, January 24 2020:
Numerous associations have come out strongly against the alleged harassment and assault on a lady IPS officer by an Assam Rifles personnel at Khudenthangbi check post on January 19.Expressing grave concern, the IPS Association, Kerala Chapter, has conveyed that the statement of the Assam Rifles regarding the incident, is totally unwarranted and is tantamount to maligning the lady officer, who is the victim of a crime case under investigation.
It further assured that it stands totally in support of the lady officer at this crucial moment and expressed belief that the law will prevail and bring justice to the officer.
IAS Association, Manipur Chapter has also strongly condemned the unfortunate incident and urged all parties concerned to extend due cooperation to the SIT set up to investigate the matter.
It also extended solidarity to the lady officer.
On the other hand, Indian Forest Service (IFS) Association Manipur has also expressed shock and concern over the undesirable incident befalling the lady IPS officer.
Further expressing serious concern at the way the matter has been highlighted in media during the process of investigation, the association iterated its firm faith in the legal/judicial system.
The association further urged the authorities to take up the matter at the appropriate level and ensure that no such incidents recur with any Government officials serving the people under various departments.
Joinging the chorus of condemnations, the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur asked for immediate removal of PVCP, Khudengthabi that is manned by Assam Rifles saying, the reported molestation of an IPS officer there is not an isolated one.
A statement issued by KIC Secretary Lalkhohao Chongloi said the KIC is outraged over the molestation of Ms Anupam, SDPO Yairipok by a jawan of 12 Assam Rifles on January 19 at PVCP Khudengthabi.
The vile and indecent behaviour of the AR jawan is not an outrage on human decency and conduct but is also reflective of the attitude of AR personnel posted there, who more often than not, keeps on subjecting the common people to all sorts of mental harassment with impunity in the name of frisking and maintaining law and order, it said.
If an IPS officer, even after she had identified herself, is still subjected to such a humiliation one can only imagine the plight of common people or tourists and small time businessmen or businesswomen who frequent this route, alleged KIC.
The said PVCP has of late been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
There has been a few instances in the recent past where the conduct of the jawans posted there had flagrantly violated all civilised standards of behaviour.
Hence it is safe to say that the reprehensible act is not a stray or an isolated one.
In the light of these facts at hand, the KIC claimed, it has been demanding the removal of the check post without further ado, before another woman and innocent civilian's self respect, modesty or chastity is outraged again by one or the other jawans posted there.
