An emergency meeting of the Editors' Forum Manipur was held today at the office of the Mannaba daily newspaper at Uripok with Keisham Shyam, Acting President of the Forum in the chair.
The meeting discussed in detail the prevailing situation in the state and the handicaps facing the media community in carrying out their daily and normal duties.
Intimidation and threats posed by the general strike supporters to the scribes also figured prominently in the discussion.
The meeting condemned in unequivocal term detention of media community and pelting of stones to the newsmen at Singjamei areas by the agitators.
The meeting decided to urge the organizations spearheading the agitation to advise the agitators to prevent recurrence of such incident in future.
Braving all odds that include restriction by the Government the media community are carrying out their normal duties both days and nights.
The media community too has limitation and there might be lapses in covering certain incidents.
It is humanly impossible to cover all the incidents happening here and there in the state in the wake of the public uprising against the imposition of the armed forces special powers act in the state.
The Forum appealed to the agitators not to cause intimidation and harassment to the media community.
