Imphal, November 15:
Zeliangrong Students Union (ZSUM) and Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the Illegal Eviction at Langol Foothills have temporarily suspended the proposed bandh on the two National Highways which was scheduled to begin from November 14.The decision to call off the bandh was taken after the Chief Minister assured the two bodies that the issue of evicting villagers from the Langol foothills will be done by a competent law Court after due consultation and deliberation with the affected villagers.
The bodies however warned of resuming the indefinite bandh again if the Chief Minister fails to convert his assurance into concrete actions within a short period.
Meanwhile, All Colleges Tribal Students' Organisation (ACTSOM) while strongly opposing the State Govt's decision to evict villagers from the Langol foothills has termed the Govt's action as immature and irresponsible.
It also extended its support to the cause of the JAC and appealed to the State Govt to solve the problem within the shortest possible time.
The organisation will not remain mute spectators but take up various forms of agitation if the Govt tails to comply with the wishes of the affected villagers, it added.
On the other hand, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has appealed to the Govt to stop developmental works at Tharon Village immediately as it had destroyed many tombs located in the village's grave yard.
