Imphal, November 15:
The 5th Ching Tarn Ningol Chakkouba organised by the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) was held at the MBC complex on November 14 with Lok Sabha MP Mani Charenamei and MEKHOL president Akoijam Janaki as the chief guest and president respectively.
Hill ningols married into Meitei families numbering about 800 attended the function which was marked by devotional songs, comedy session and other items.
Besides presenting a shawl each to all the ningols as a token of love by the MBC authorities, a grand feast was also organised for the ningols at the end of the function.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Reverend Mathanmi of MBC and the man behind the function said that Ningol Chakkouba is not only a day for feasting but also to recognise the role that women play in cementing the ties between different communities of the State.
A ningol married into another community, automatically means that her heart and soul has become the sowing ground for the meeting of different people and is it this concept of universal brotherhood and love that the festival was organised at MBC, he added.
It is this message that should be spread to other parts of the country where the noble concept of the festival should be kept alive, said the Reverend.
MBC volunteers worked through out the day for the smooth conduct of the festival.
Meanwhile, AMESCO along with various local clubs and social organisations also observed Ningol Chakkouba at different parts of the State.
AMESCO and various local clubs observed Ningol Chakkouba by organising functions at Ningthoukhong, Laikhong, Leitanpokpi, Motbung, Torbung, Langol Laimanai, Kangpokpi, Phunal Maring, Wangoo and Jiribam.
