AAMYA bats for Manipuri Autonomous Council in Assam

The All Assam Manipuri Youths' Association (AAMYA) has asked the State Government to extend support to the demand for setting up Manipuri Autonomous Council in Assam.
Addressing journalists at Manipur Press Club, chief advisor of AAMYA, Kundal Kshetrimayum stated that Barak Valley in Assam was a part of the erstwhile Manipur kingdom.
Though Manipuris in Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley are indigenes of Assam, they still face deprivations and have no political representative till date, he said and opined that there is an urgent need for a Manipuri Autonomous Council in Assam considering the deprivation faced by about 6 lakh Manipuris there.
Continuing that AAMYA which was established in 1964 has been demanding for political autonomy of the Manipuris in Assam since 1969, he added that the Assam Government is yet to take notice of their demand.
Chief Minister N Biren and Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan have assured of providing all possible help to the demand for setting up Manipuri Autonomous Council in Assam to the representatives of AAMYA on March 10, he maintained.
