VFC Zalen lift Saikul Veteran Open Football Champion trophy

The sixth edition of Saikul Veteran Open Football Tournament organized by Saikul United Veteran concluded in style yesterday at Saikul Hill Town playground.
The local MLA, Yamthong Haokip graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest while L Thangkholun Kuki, Retd DSWO and Seimang Lupho, president Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai attended as the guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Members of Kuki Inpi Churachandpur and Kuki Khanglai Lompi apart from various CSOs leaders from Kangpokpi District and Saikul area also attended the closing ceremony.
The final match played between Veteran Football Club Zalen and North Churachandpur Veteran Football Club was entertaining one as both the sides remained levelled at 3-3 during the normal time.
Helun (29',34') and Tony (55') scored it for VFC Zalen while Seihlam (30'), Seipao (32') and Thanglal (46') netted for the North Churachandpur side.
The winners were eventually decided via tie break wherein VFC Zalen added 5 goals against North Churachandpur VFC's four.
Champions, VFC Zalen were feted with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy while the runners up, North Churachandpur VFC settled for a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Lhunpu, Lenpu, Kamboi and Helun of VFC Zalen were adjudged Best Goalkeeper, Best Player, Best Midfielder and Top Scorer respectively.
They were also feted along withRosangliana of North Churachandpur VFC and Thangpu Chongloi of VFC Molkon Bazar who were named Best Midfielder and seniormost player of the tournament respectively.
Kamcha Chongloi, president, Saikul United Veteran said that around twelve Veteran Football Clubs from across the State participated in the event organized to promote peace and harmony through games and sports and especially fitness among the veteran football lovers.
