Imphal, October 05 2012:
Pointing that Wangoo Tera High School is facing serious problem of teaching staff inadequacy and absence of basic infrastructure including as toilet facility, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has called upon the authority concerned to provide all possible assistance at the earliest.
The infrastructure inadequacies were discovered during a visit of DESAM volunteers and media persons today.
speaking to the media persons on the sideline of the inspection visit, DESAM's assistant general secretary Pukhrambam Premchandra informed that a joint body comprising of DESAM and local youth and women organisations was formed in March 2011 to specifically develop educational institutions and promote quality education in the State.
Consequent to the joint campaign and effort, the then Wangoo Tera Junior High School was upgraded to the High School level and witnessed an overwhelming response in registration of upto 309 students when the first session as a high school commenced in April 2011 .
In the current session a total of 442 students are studying from class I to IX standard with a teaching staff strength of three Government teachers, six hired private teachers and five provided under the RMSA project, he said.
Under the RMSA project construction of 10 classrooms started in May 2011 but they are not yet completed, maintained Premchandra while adding that even though 10 computer sets have been provided to the School the electronic gadgets are being kept at a teacher's residence as there is no computer room in the School.
In addition to absence of fencing, there are only two toilets for the entire students and teaching staff and without separation of male and female facilities, cycle shed remains in shamble, classrooms incompatible with the strength of students and cessation of mid-day meal scheme since 2008 till date, the dESAM functionary said.
Opining that inspite of healthy number of students lack of basic facilities is likely to impede academic pursuit of the students, Premchandra called upon the State authorities to initiate all possible measures and save career and future ambition of the students.
