DESAM celebrates B'day

The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), celebrated its 15th foundation day at GM Hall today on the theme of co-existence.
Manipur University Centre for Myanmar Studies Director Professor W Nabakumar, DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba, Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), Imphal branch joint secretary J Khongsai and Cultural Activist Ningthouja Lancha graced the celebration as presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor W Nabakumar stressed on the need to understand the historical backgrounds of all the community to restore the diminishing bond between them.
He further stressed on the importance of all round development to achieve unity and peace.
Moirangthem Angamba opined that education will be the most effective tool to solve the issues prevalent in the State.
"The purpose of education is to raise a responsible, sensible society," he said emphasising the need for a change in the State's education system.
He also advocated for the inclusion of cultural geography and cultural history in the curriculum of schools, college and universities in the State.
Chingu Maichou Khongnang Award for 2017 was also distributed during the celebration today.
Lamlai High School Hindi Graduate teacher Yumnam Tomba, Nambol Higher Secondary School vice-Principal Dr Arambam Sanatomba and Takyel Mapal Primary School vice-Principal Thoudam Sunitibala received the award that comprised of a citation, a shawl and cash reward of Rs 5000 each.
Newly elected office bearers of school and college unions were also felicitated at the function today.
A blood donation camp was also organised on the occasion.
12 doctors from JNIMS Hospital and 2 from RIMS Hospital attended the blood donation camp.
