Imphal, January 03:
The Manipur Human Rights Commission has asked the DGP to furnish a report pertaining to a petition which alleged that the wife of a newly married man has been abducted by his mother-in-law (wife's mother).
The aggrieved husband, Bimol Ningombam (27) who approached the MHRC, said that his wife, Esther Cingkhanlun, might have been taken away to either Kolkata or Yangon by her mother, Hathoi Buansing of Bethany Christian College Family Lane, Churachandpur.
The petition said that a legal marriage was solemnised on November 10 last year and added that on November 30 the husband and wife went to Moreh.
While they were staying at a hotel at Moreh, some unidentified persons barged in and abducted his wife on Dec 1, said the husband.
The abductors were hired by the mother-in-law, charged the husband.
The matter was then forwarded to the Meitei Council, Moreh and Hill Tribal Council but owing to the confrontationist stand of the mother-in-law and her henchmen, the two organisations could not sort out the matter, said the petition.
Though a written complaint was lodged with the Moreh police station, no FIR was registered, charged the husband and prayed before the rights panel to take up necessary action so that his wife is restored to him.
After going through the petition, the rights panel asked the DGP to submit a detailed report on the matter within four days time.
