Migration of people from the rural to the urban areas of Churachandpur Dist has been found exceedingly high according to reports submitted after an electoral roll intensive revision conducted by the State Election Department in Churachandpur dist.
The State Election Department had conducted the electors intensive revision in the dists as part of the State wide revision for preparing the State's 2005 electoral roll following strict instructions from the Election Commission of India.
The rate of migration from the rural areas to Churachandpur town is definitely very high compared to the previous years, said the source adding that the factors behind the high rate of migration, even though not very clear, may be due to economic factors or intensified insurgency activities in the remote areas of the dist.
Sources also said that some of Assembly Constituencies in both the hills recorded very high growth of electors with some of them even exceeding the 40 percent mark The places which have recorded high rate of increase in the electors population are Lamshang, Moirang, Tengoupal, Saikul, Karong, Mao, Tadubi, Kangpokpi and Saitu.
Following the detection of the abnormal increase in the electors population in some of the constituencies, the State Election Department after obtaining permission from the Election Commission of India has appointed 18 Government officials to recheck and study the report submitted by the members of the electoral roll intensive revision team afresh.
Sources said that the recent electoral revision has also revealed that the rate of increase in electors population in Tamenglong district is also slightly high whereas the case is different in Ukhrul district which has recorded a low electorate population.
