CM appeals rebel groups to join peace process

The signing of the peace agreement on November 29 was made possible with the support, cooperation and encouragement of the people of Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said today at Kangla, Imphal, during a reception ceremony of Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) .
Addressing the reception ceremony which was also attended by family members of the Pambei-led UNLF cadres, the Chief Minister said the process for signing of the peace agreement under the guidance and advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah took 3 years.
He said the peace talk started three years ago when India Government representatives and leaders of the Pambei-led UNLF met overseas.
He expressed gratitude to the leaders, Central Committee, cadres and MPA of Pambei-led UNLF for accepting the Central Government's proposal for peace.
Urging all outfits of the region to support and follow a similar peace process, N Biren said he is ready to work as the facilitator.
"We have lived divided for long and lost many precious lives due to the division.
Let us learn to make sacrifices and unite," N Biren said, reiterating his call to the people to "forgive and forget" .
He urged all communities to encourage one another and be united to rebuild a strong and united Manipur.
The Government is for all communities residing together in the State, and is not against any particular community, he said.
People of Manipur should acknowledge the actions of the Centre under PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in lifting the AFSPA and implementing ILP (Inner Line Permit) in Manipur.
As a part of the ceremony, the cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF were feted and pigeons were released carrying the message of peace, hope and development.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, Army, civil and police officers, leaders of the Pambei-led UNLF, Acting Chairman Moirangthem Nongyai, General Secretary Chabungbam Thanil, intellectuals and many eminent personalities attended the ceremony, among others.
