Capacity building programme held

A two-day capacity building programme on drug demand reduction, with a focus on .empowering the future educators to make a positive impact on their students' lives, organised by Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Guidance & Counselling Cell of DM College of Teacher Education (DMCTE), concluded at the DMCTE conference hall, here, on Thursday.
The inaugural function held on November 29 was attended by Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam, DMCTE principal RK Lokendra, and DMCTE associate professor Dineshkumar as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Uttam underscored the significance of counselling over mere advice in dealing with individuals grappling with drug use or addiction.
He emphasised the need for dedicated Crisis Intervention Centres in schools and colleges to address the growing challenges related to substance abuse.
Director of the state level co-ordinating agency Padmashree Dr A Jayantakumar along with Art of Living faculty Elangbam Anita, state council member of government programme Hijam Kishorchand, and counsellor of government-run Anouba Mangal Trust Centre Guruaribam Bishwanath, contributed as resource persons.
A total of 300 student teachers actively participated in the programme, gaining valuable insights and skills to contribute effectively to the state action plan for drug demand reduction.
