SVEEP awareness campaign conducted

Ukhrul district SVEEP team held an awareness campaign in four higher secondary schools of Ukhrul town.
The awareness campaign was held in Little Angel English School; Ukhrul Higher Secondary School; Sacred Higher Secondary School and KTL-Excel Higher secondary School.
During the campaign, District nodal officer of SVEEP, Ringshan Shaiza enlightened the students about the importance of voter registration/enrolment in the electoral roll.
He also educated the students about the objective of Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) which is to increase voter percentage to 75 percent in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 by fixing the electoral rolls of every polling booths and bridging gender gaps in enrolment and turnouts.

Further the campaign is aimed at ensuring the inclusion of all non-voters/ marginalised sections through targeted interventions, technological solutions and policy changes.
This will enhance the quality of electoral participation in terms of informed and ethical voting through continuous electoral and democracy education, said the Nodal officer .
The District SVEEP also urged the school authorities to set up Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) and appoint ambassadors in the colleges.
The team educated the students about the process of registering in the Election Commission of India through online voter registration for Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 on the qualifying date (1 Jan, 1 April, 1 July and 1 Oct of the year of revision of electoral roll) .
As a part of the awareness campaign, t-shirts and caps were distributed to the students and staff.
