Imphal, July 02 2020:
Residents of Thangal Keithel, Ngari Gali and Khoyathong areas have expressed strong reservation against the several activities being taken up on the road running between the two Ima Keithels of Thangal Keithel.
Even as several kinds of restrictions are being imposed in the whole Thangal Keithel on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, seats are being constructed in between shops, flowers and decorative plants are being planted/place and the entire pavement is being covered with tiles.
A public meeting has been already held on the matter.
People who attended the meeting lamented that the Government seems totally indifferent to the problems and plights of the residents and shopkeepers of Thangal Keithel.
They appealed to the Government to re-think about how ambulances, private vehicles or fire tenders would go to the area in case of any emergency if the road running between the two Ima Keithels is blocked.
Some years back, the Government tried to build a temporary market shed on one of the busiest roads of Thangal Keithel but it was aborted following stiff opposition from the public.
The residents then appealed to the Government to abort the plan, if there is any, to make any permanent arrangement in the busy market area.
They said that they have been facing many difficulties due to lack of parking space for their vehicles.
The Government has constructed parking space over Naga Nullah.
Although there may not be any problem in keeping vehicles in the Government allotted parking space during day time, no one would like to keep their vehicles at the particular parking lot during night, said the residents.
The also appealed to the Government to allow opening of at least one grocery shop and a vegetable vendor for the residents of Thangal Keithel during the lockdown which is now over three months old.
