Imphal, June 26 2012:
The alarming rise in the number of migrants in Manipur has raised concern for many indeginous people of the State.
The Indigenous Kuki People's Forum (IKPF) expressed the necessity of the people of the State to come together and demand the imposition of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system before further damage.
A statement of the IKPF stated the need of the hour for the people of Manipur to stop waging war against each other and focus on the larger picture that is posing as a threat to the ethnicity of the State, further forewarning of a Tripura-like situation in Manipur, where the migrants are running the State.
The inner line permit of Manipur was renounced in the Parliament House by the then Indian Government in presence of late MP Laishram Achou of the Socialist Party.
The undertakings of civil societies and media would not be enough; people need to unite and confront the government to implement the inner line permit system, said IKPF.
It further suggested the Manipur Government to retrieve the ILP system in the State in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly, cautioning them of democratic agitations, along with other organizations, if the Government fails to deliver positive result.
