Sadar Hills, August 25 2016:
In a sensible and an exemplary move to make educational institutions a 'Free Zone', the Sadar Hills Private Schools Association (SHIPS) has decided to call upon various civil society organizations, JACs to exempt schools within Sadar Hills from any bandh, blockade, rally, strike, agitation and dharna.
The decision of the apex body of all private schools within Sadar Hills was taken in its general meeting on August 20 at Elite Higher Secondary School, Kangpokpi where other various resolutions were also adopted.
SHIPS president, Hemang Singsit said that in a conflict-torn State like Manipur where bandhs, general strikes, protest rallies and dharnas are called consistently in support of diverse issues by various social organizations and civil bodies including student organizations, educational institutions should be made an essential service at par with medical, media and other emergency services.
He continued that the frequent bandhs, general strikes, protest rallies, dharnas, etc.
in the State and Sadar Hills in particular have already paralyzed the academic scenario to a great extent disturbing the minds of the young students.
He further said that schools should not be made a 'soft target' in any type of agitation without overseeing the adverse impact on both the students and teachers while adding that there is no logic or reasoning in making students participate in protests and agitations.
"Student's understanding will ultimately suffer if a syllabus supposed to teach in a year is covered in nine months and what quality do we expect in such an education", asserted the SHIPS leader and added that it will be a wise step to categorize educational institutions under essential services during any bandhs, strikes, protest rallies and dharnas.
Therefore, we appeal all CSOs/JACs to exempt schools and students within Sadar Hills from any agitations, bandhs, blockades, strikes, rallies and dharnas in the interest and welfare of all schools and student community in Sadar Hills, he added.
