Imphal, May 13 2022:
An individual who collected money fraudulently from some shops in the name of renewing their licences has been pulled up and handed over to City police station.
The fraudster has been identified as one Sorokhaibam Amarjit (24) of Uripok Tourangbam Leirak.
Notably, Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) care-taker Mayor L Lokeshore issued a notification recently asking all shopkeepers operating in IMC areas to register their shops and obtain licences by May 25 if they have not already done the same.
Parading Sorokhaibam Amarjit before media persons today, L Lokeshore said that they rounded up Amarjit from RIMS Road this afternoon after receiving specific information about renewal of shop licences fraudulently.
Using a forged receipt book of the IMC, Amarjit offered to renew licences of five shops and collected money from the shopkeepers in return, Lokeshore said.
Saying that Amarjit would be handed over to police, the care-taker Mayor confided that he would put in maximum efforts to ensure that all the people involved in such acts of fraudulence are punished according to law.
If any shopkeeper has documents of such fraudulent renewal of licences, the same may be brought to the office of IMC for renewing the licences authentically, he added.
