Drugs worth Rs 1.29 crores seized

Imphal, July 28 2018:
In a major haul, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) on 27 July 2018 seized a huge cache of contraband drugs, worth Rs 1.29 crores in International market on Imphal - Moreh National Highway (NH 102) of Manipur.
Acting on specific information, a Eeco Van was intercepted at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal District by a team of Tengnoupal Battalion.
During the search the security personnel found approximately 258 gms of concealed drugs in the vehicle.

The passenger was taken into custody by Assam Rifles.
The seized items and the apprehendee were handed over to Police Station Moreh.
The socio-political and economic ramifications of the ongoing illegal drug trade are a major cause of concern for the state of Manipur which is the Gateway of India to Southeast Asia.
Assam Rifles rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have launched a crusade against the illicit drug smuggling in Manipur.
In the past one year contraband drugs worth Rs 69.46 crores approximately have been seized by 26 Sector Assam Rifles.
