Imphal, July 28 2018:
The Reformist Students' Front (RSF) has called a 48 hour State-wide general strike from the midnight of August 3 on three different issues viz; Framework Agreement, border pillar dispute and Manipur University impasse.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, RSF president Thoiba Khumancha alleged that the Government of India (Gol) is trying to create Greater Nagalim by carving out Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts from Manipur to appease the NSCN (IM) under the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the militant group.
He went on to say that the GoI has been following a divide and rule policy among the various communities in the State as a part of their conspiracy to work out a solution to the Naga peace talk which has been going on for almost 20 years.
However, the RSF and the people of Manipur are aware that the Gol's conspiracy will not do any harm to India as a whole but it would be catastrophic for the State of Manipur.
Hence, the Government of India must disclose the contents of the Framework Agreement and announce its decision clearly and publicly at the earliest, the RSF president demanded and warned that the students' organization along with the public will not remain silent if the peace talk harms the State in any way.
Emphasizing on the recent resurvey conducted by the representatives of GoI, including Surveyor General of India at BP number 81 at Kwatha Khunou, Thoiba alleged that the representatives are agents of GoI.
Stressing on the long standing impasse in Manipur University, the RSF president also accused the GoI of politicising the issue.
He alleged that the incumbent VC of the university Professor AP Pandey was sent by the Government of India for political mobilization within the university.
Demanding resignation of the VC immediately, Thoiba called for restoration normal academic atmosphere in MU, free from all political influences.
He also criticized the State Government for remaining a mute spectator and added that the silence of the Government proves that it has been dancing to the tune of the Centre.
If the State Government continues to run its affairs in this manner, graver issues will erupt sooner rather than later, he added.
