Imphal, September 20 2013 :
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Dis-tribution (CAF&PD) Depart- ment has decided to expand the scope of its ongoing exercise of offering rice to public at subsi-dised rate through mobile sale to hill areas too.
According to information received from CAF&PD Department, APL rice allotted to the State by the Government of India was allocated to the hill districts but some quantities were held back by the de- partment as rice allocated to the districts do not reach every part of each district.
It is these rice deducted from the district-wise allocation which are being distribu- ted to public at subsidised through mobile sale.
Since September 16, 10 Kgs of rice are being distributed for one individual at the rate of Rs 10 per Kg in the valley districts through mobile sale.

Although the ongoing exercise has been already exten- ded because of strong pressure exerted by MLAs, it would be wrapped up in the next couple of days because there would be no rice in stock if it is extended again.
Nonetheless, the department has made necessary arrangements to take the exercise to district headquarters of hill areas and other suitable market places starting from tomorrow.
Like in the valley, rice would be sold at Rs 10 per Kg and each person would be given 10 Kgs of rice.
Moreover, 200 quintals of rice have been reserved for each district, specially for the mobile sale.
Each district would be allocated 50 quin-tals of rice in a day for mobile sale at different places, added the source.
