Imphal, September 20 2013 :
Demanding that alternative arrangements be made prior to dismantling process of the shops located along both the sides of the approach road to Singjamei Bridge towards the eastern side of Imphal River, shop owners of the area carried out a sit-in protest demonstration at Singjamei today.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, members of Singjamei Pheeyonpham Shop Owners' Association pointed out that Imphal West DC had issued a notification instructing the shop owners to empty their shops as their shops would be dismantled very soon.
There are at present around 47 shops along both sides of the approach road to Singjamei Bridge towards the eastern side of Imphal River.
They further informed that earlier in a meeting, the Chief Minister had assured the shop owners that an alternative place for carrying out their business would be arranged prior to the dismantling process.
A temporary market shed has also been constructed on the northern side of Singjamei Super Market for the purpose.
But the approval for occupying the shops has not been arrived as yet.
As such, the aggrieved shopkeepers have been compelled to stage the sit-in, they added.
