Imphal, April 20 2017:
Parliamentary Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Heikham Dingo Singh has said that development can be brought to the villages only when there are adequate resources and skilled individuals.
He made the statement at a one day District Level Cocoon Buyer Seller Meet organised by District Sericulture Office, Imphal West and Khurkhul Youth Club, North at Khurkhul Awang Leikai community hall today.
He pointed out that the main problem faced by the weavers of the area is the lack of mulberry leaves which can be solved to a great extent by reviving the mulberry farms at the hills near Khurkhul.
Assuring the people that he would consult with the Chief Minister and the Commerce and Industry Minister regarding the matter, Dingo pointed out that productivity can be increased by improving the spinning mill in the area.
Speaking at the event, Dr L Somen Singh (scientist-D, REC, CSB) stated that rearing silkworms was practised in five different areas of the State in the ancient times but gradually died with the changing times.
Khurkhul is the only place left where the process is still widely practised by the people, he added.
Director Sericulture S Kunjakishore was also present at the event.
