Imphal, April 20 2017:
IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip has warned that stern action would be taken up against encroachers along the banks of Imphal River.
Inspecting the banks of Imphal river at Hatta Golapati and Sanjenthong areas today evening, Minister Letpao Haokip said illegal structures being put up at the river bank would be dismantled in consultation with the Revenue Department.
Interestingly, a building was found constructed on the road at Hatta Golapati while a portion of a walkway along the bank was found occupied by a private party illegally near Sanjenthong.
The Minister expressed strong disapproval over the setting up of a 'permanent' police picket at the eastern end of Sanjenthong.
He said that police pickets are normally 'mobile/movable,' but the picket at Sanjenthong has been constructed in a permanent manner.
The Minister said, "This is deplorable," while adding that it is against public interest.
The Minister immediately sought status report of the land being 'encroached' from the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East.
"Necessary action would be initiated after the report is received from the DC," Letpao Haokip said, according to a press release issued by DIPR.
