Burglary case cracked, accused held

In a police investigation which lasted for nearly five months, a burglar finally landed in police dragnets and various stolen items have been recovered.
A VIP room (No.8) of the State Guest House located at Sanjenthong was broken into in broad daylight and burgled.
The room was occupied by a Chief Conservator of Forest, namely DJN Anand.
He had left his room in the morning and the burglary occurred between 11 am and 12.30 pm of August 22, 2016. Along with Rs 70,000 in cash, gold, two laptops, eight mobile phones, LPG cylinder, the burglar had looted articles worth nearly Rs 20 lakh on the said day.
A complaint was lodged at Imphal Police Station and an FIR 229 (08)2016 IPS was registered.
A police team started investigating the case immediately and peripheral area of the State Guest House was searched.
Suspects were questioned randomly including rickshaw pullers, sentries etc.
After weeks, the police team finally got a lead and one person was seen carting away an LPG cylinder in a goods ferrying rickshaw.
The suspect was identified as one Nawaz alias Ibomcha (22) s/o Md Allaudin of Keirao Litan Makhong.
He was alleged to be a drug abuser.
Police zeroed in on his address and started a background check and found that the person was a habitual offender and he had stayed in a rented room near Sanjenthong for some time.
His movement was tracked and finally, he was intercepted by police from a passenger auto-rickshaw at Kongba Bazaar on January 5 this year.
One laptop, one mobile phone and an LPG cylinder were recovered from his residence.
He is presently in police custody.
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of OC, Imphal police station, Th Dinesh and a special police team headed by SI Arambam Amitabh along with SI Johnson, SI Premchand, SI Jivananda , SI Arja and ASI Subhas.
During the investigation, police had analysed nearly 700 phone calls, informed a source.
