Imphal, March 06:
The State Cabinet has deliberated on providing greater economy to the State Vigilance Commission under a specific legislation so that it can function more purposefully, stated Chief Minister O Ibobi while discussing the annual report of the Vigilance Commission last afternoon.
The motion was raised by veteran MPP leader O Joy.
He observed that even as the Commission has recommended several measures in various cases, the State Government has failed to implement even a single recommendation till date.
Asserting that the Commission is like a toothless tiger, Joy drew the attention of the House to empower the Commission with greater economy.
Informing that between April and December last year, the Vigilance Commission took up 65 cases filed by public, 38 by Govt and 19 by other sources, Joy appealed to the State Cabinet to study the recommendations of the Commission.
Responding to the motion, the Chief Minister informed the House that the State Cabinet has accepted the necessity of a specific legislation to empower the Commission and to enable it function properly.
The Government is considering enactment of the legislation, he added.
Maintaining that recommendations of the Commission should be implemented, Ibobi also decried that non-implementation of the Commission's recommendations by the concerned Departments has negated the very purpose of the existence of Vigilance Commission.
