Imphal, October 31:
A jeep belonging to a Catholic priest was hijacked by unidentified persons yesterday afternoon and the priest and his driver detained for some time, raising apprehensions of foul play among the Catholic establishment here.
The two men have however made their way back safely after being released by the hijackers.
According to reports, Father Raffi, from Kerala, a former head of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou and his driver Rai Singh Ram, were stopped by some unidentified armed youths, believed to be UGs at Wangjing bazar yesterday afternoon while, they were proceeding towards St Anthony's School at Machi village in Thoubal district in a Mahindra jeep.
Both priest and driver were taken by the youths at gunpoint, along with their jeep, up to Salungpham, where the two men were released unharmed last night.
The two made their way back on foot and this morning the driver Rai Singh Ram made a report to the Thoubal police station regarding their kidnapping and the hijacking of the jeep.
