The mortal remains of 17 year old Okram Ramananda was consigned to flames at Kekrupat today where the other 17 martyrs were laid to rest.
Ramananda succumbed to injuries yesterday evening.
He sustained grievous injuries after he fell off a moving bus while on way to take part in a public pledge to safeguard the territorial boundary of the State at Kheba Ching, Thoubal on July 28.Hundreds of people including students took out a procession from Lilong PHC where post mortem was conducted to proceed upto Kekrupat for the cremation.
About 20 family members and representatives of the Kekru Villa Club cremated the body at Kekrupat.
Students, mourners who were not allowed to enter Kekrupat and attend the last rites of Ramananda stood in a row on the northern side of the Kekrupat and symbolically took part in the funeral.
The mourners also observed a two minute silence today respect to the departed soul.
Meanwhile the United Committee, Khongjom Circle stated that a number of people have come forward and forwarded financial assistance to the family members of Ramananda.
