MSCW demands prompt action

A team of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) led by its Chairperson Dr K Sobita Devi while visiting the residence of Soram Tomba Singh of Uripok Basaspati Maning Leikai in connection with the death of his wife Soram Lakhipriyari Devi and his daughter Irengbam Monica Devi has demanded the authority concerned to take up prompt action and award capital punishment to the culprit(s) .
The team met Soram Tomba Singh at his residence and sought a detail report into the death of his wife and daughter, said MSCW in a statement.
The team also met H Bikramjit Singh, convene, JAC constituted against the incident.
Bikramjit said that a joint action committee 'People's Action Committee' has been formed in connection with the death of Monica and her mother.
Dr K Sobita Devi, has strongly condemned the death of Lakhipriyari and Monica and said that the murder seemed to be a cold blooded one and that capital punishment should be awarded to the culprits.
Dr Sobita also said that State Government, police, JAC and CSOs should work hand to hand to solve the case at the earliest.
Self-defense training programme for the adolescent girls and middle-age women will be urgently organized to curb crime against women in the State, she added.
