Banned cough syrup worth Rs 1 lac seized

Police seized 348 bottles of banned cough syrup 'Concor' worth around Rs 1 lakh from near the gate of Lilong police station along Indo-Myanmar road today at around 10.45 am.
According to reports, a police leam acting on a specific information carried out frisking and checking near the gate of Lilong PS during which an Ashoka Leyland truck coming in a suspicious manner was stopped for checking.
When the vehicle bearing registration number MN05A-4737 was checked, the police found 348 bottles of banned cough syrup 'Concor' with each bottle containing 100 ml kept concealed in two air bags.
On interrogation, the truck driver identified as Md Samir Hussain (27) s/o (L) Md Sanayai of Sora Karanchi disclosed that the banned cough syrup was handed over to him by one Md Tomba (35) s/o (L) Md Hasan of Yairipok Hietroipokpi presently staying at Lokhra Nala Para near Guwahati.
He revealed that he was instructed by Md Tomba to deliver the banned cough syrup containing codeine to Md Feroj (30) of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, the reports said.
Police said the seized cough syrup worth around Rs 1 lakh.
On the other hand, a team of Lilong police assisted by members of Anjuman Islahi Muasharah recovered a stolen Maruti A-Star car bearing registration number MN01S-2284 on May 16 .
The team also arrested one vehicle lifter identified as Md Moshin of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai from Imphal Tulihal Airport on the same day.
A case has been registered against him in the police station concerned.
One of Md Moshin's associates namely Md Shahrukh Khan of the same locality was also arrested along with the recovery of a gold-coloured Hyandai i10 car and a silver-coloured Royal Enfield on May 20 and 21 respectively.
