KIM condemns, questions UNC

Imphal, October 27 2016: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and the Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust (KOHRT) have strongly condemned the armed attack on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and his Cabinet colleagues at Ukhrul on October 24 .

"Whoever is behind the attack should explain the reason for their violent action.

There may be differences in ideology and political philosophy etc.

However any disagreement can be discussed and solved for the preservation of international peace and security," said a press release issued by KIM and KOHRT. The attackers should explain the reason of such armed attack on a leader of the State whose mission was to inaugurate developmental projects.

The attack was to the whole State and against development in the State, said the statement.

Referring to a news item published in The Sangai Express on October 26 under the caption "UNC alerts all constituent units," in which UNC president Gaidon Kamei was quoted as saying "All the Naga units of the United Naga Council (UNC) have been directed to remain alert so as to thwart any backlash from the Government of Manipur following the barring of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh from inaugurating projects in Ukhrul district on October 24", KIM and KOHRT said this sounds like a declaration of war against the State.

The statement further said that the utterances of UNC president Gaidon Kamei "UNC president Gaidon Kamei informed Newmai News Network that the position of the hill people against Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his Council of Ministers and those 'Legislators endorsing Ibobi's doctrine' still stands,"' needs immediate explanation regarding who are the hill people, supporting UNC against the Chief Minister.

In case his statement includes the Kukis, he must issue a public apology with immediate effect, added KIM and KOHRT.

Gaidon Kamei and the UNC should try to live peacefully with all their brothers namely Kukis, Nagas and Meiteis, added the statement.

"Hatred will ultimately snatch away indigenous land ownership by selling it away through negotiations after negotiations with people who have never lived in our ancestral land, nor have ever done anything to save our land", it said.

The Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging that the name of Vangaichungpao Railway Station be not changed.

A secret policy to eradicate Kuki names has been going on, it alleged.

Common nomenclature "Kuki," is the name of all the people who stood together and defended the whole North East India and North West Burma (now Myanmar) against the invading British colonial Government, it claimed.
