Imphal, June 22 2013 :
Demanding immediate revocation of State Cabinet's decision to convert Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary school into an all-girls school, All Manipur Student Guar-dians' Organisation (AMGSO) has urged the State Government to change the all-boys school to a co-educational institute if situation demands.
In a press conference held at its Palace Compound office, AMSGO organisation secretary Sumati said, the State Government's recent move could not be regarded as a right decision.
She questioned why TG HSS can't be changed into an all-boys school if Ramlal Paul HSS can be changed into a girls' school.
She also opined that it is not logical to give too much importance to the students who would not be accommodated at TG HSS.
She said that there would be many students who would not get admission at CC Higher Secondary School and Johnstone Higher Secondary School as well.
Questioning why the Government is not willing to apply mind for these boy students, Sumati observed that the recent decision gives an impression to the general public that the Government is concerned with girl students alone.
The Government must put in effort to enhance the academic condition of other schools as well, she added.
Sumati also observed that it is not right to shift the students of Ramlal Paul HSS to another school mid academic year.
Urging the Govt not to implement any policy in urgency, she demanded that policies be prepared with farsighted vision.
She also said that it was unfortunate to give a verbal directive to the authority of Ramlal Paul HSS to stop issuing of admission forms.
Sumati suggested that Bengali High School could be upgraded to a girls' higher secondary school considering its location.
