Imphal, June 22 2013 :
Even though the State Government is trying its level best to beautify Loktak Lake to attract tourists from across the globe, the approach road from Moirang bazaar to Sendra is in a shocking state.
The State Government has totally ignored repairing of the road leading to Sendra hillock, from where a bird's eye view of the majestic Loktak Lake can be seen.
The black topping of the road has been stopped midway and the retaining wall on both sides of the approach road remained left unattended.
The road median of the approach road is also in complete mess with no uniformity maintained along the whole stretch.
At some point, the breadth of the road median is around four feet while at another point it is is over 10 feet.
Locals of Sendra Tourist spot informed Hueiyen Lanpao that although the initiative taken up by the State Government to black-top and widen the approach road from Moirang bazaar to Sendra is appreciable, the road median should be made in such a way that it looks uniform all along.
The present condition of the road median is indeed disheartening.
The non-uniformity of the road median has created more problems to the people during night time with frequent cases of accidents.
There is no point in widening the approach road if the median is to be made so large at one point and too narrow at another, the locals pointed out.
Another ubiquitous scene that could not be missed is the littering around upto the Sendra Tourist spot by visitors.
Waste materials could be seen everywhere.
There is an urgent need to provide dustbins in every corner to maintain cleanliness.
