Imphal, March 21 2012:
Ahead of the onset of rainy season, a medical team of the National Institute of Malarial Research has launched field research in some areas of Manipur to find out in advance if there is any possibility of outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
An official source informed that the medical team arrived at Imphal on March 18 .
The seven-member medical team is headed by a medical officer and they include an entomologist.
The team visited Khumbong Primary Health Centre in Imphal West on March 19 .
There they collected several species of mosquitoes.
They carried out the same exercise of collecting of mosquitoes at Moreh on the next day.
The team would come back to Imphal tomorrow and continue collection of mosquitoes species at Churachandpur, Andro in Imphal East and other places.
Mosquitoes thus collected would be examined if they any of them are disease carrying vectors.
After examining the mosquitoes a vector mapping about where Japanese Encephalitis may break out, where malaria may or in which place dengue may break out would be done at the head office of National Institute of Malarial Research at Delhi.
Necessary control programmes would be taken up as per the findings of the vector mapping, added the source.
