Imphal, October 17 2017:
Against the backdrop of the cease work strike called by Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) workers demanding implementation of 6th Pay Commission, garbages have been piling up at areas in and around Ima Market .
Foul smell emanating from the garbages has been causing immense inconveniences mainly to the people who thronged the market for Ningol Chakkouba shopping .
Talking to The Sangai Express, advisor of the IMC Employees Union, Th Sobita said that the cease work strike was launched on September 22 demanding increment in salary as per 6th Pay Commission for all the IMC employees including officers and sweepers .
She reminded that the previous Government in a Cabinet meeting had given nod to implementation of 6th Pay Commission for eight Municipalities but the same has not been done till date .
She said that cleanliness activities by IMC workers at Ima Market came to a grinding halt following the strike though some contract workers were employed by the Government to do so .
Exuding confidence that the new Government led by BJP would implement 6th Pay Commission for IMC employees at the earliest, Sobita pointed out that some States have even implemented the 7th Pay Commission for their employees .
IMC employees have been reeling under intense suffering as they have not received salary for the last seven months, she rued.
