UCM hands aids to kins of June 18 martyrs

Imphal, May 14 2020: United Committee Manipur (UCM) distributed relief materials to families of 2001 June 18 martyrs today.

The relief materials consist of rice, potatoes, edible oil, onions and packets of iodised salt were distributed to surviving families/households of 25 'heroes' who fought for the cause of the State in June, 2001.The relief materials were distributed to ease their suffering during the COVID-19 lockdown and as a mark of respect for their sacrifices, said a statement issued by BM Yaima, secretary, IPR, UCM COVID-19 STF (Special Task Force).

UCM secretary general, Khuraijam Athouba, secretary organisation, Ng Deba Meetei and team presented the relief materials to the households, it said adding the committee has been distributing relief materials to lockdown affected people since April.

UCM has received aids in the form of vegetables from hill villages, clubs and organisations for further distribution to people.

Many more hill organisations and villages are still coming forward to donate aids, said UCM adding Lamlong Khullen Maring folks of Machi Block, Tengnoupal had donated vegetables to the committee yesterday.

The vegetables including banana stalks, cauliflowers and spices etc have been further distributed today, said UCM.

The committee distributed the vegetables to COVID-19 frontline workers including doctors, nurses and police personnel stationed at Government quarantine centres at UNACCO School, Meitram, Imphal Valley School, Yaralpat Navodaya, Manipur College and State TB Hospital, Keirao Wangkhem, said UCM.

Meanwhile, while interacting with the personnel stationed at the centres, they shared their grievances to the UCM members.

There is a need for setting up a dedicated Grievances Redressal Cell for the quarantine centres which will address the issues and problems frontline workers are facing, said UCM appealing State and authorities concerned to look into the matter.

The frontline personnel thanked the committee for its assistance, said UCM adding the COVID-19 Special Task Force will continue providing aids to lockdown affected people.
