HC serves notice

A Single Bench of the High Court has served notice, returnable on May 25, on seven MLAs whom disqualification cases have been filed.
Congress MLAs had filed petitions in the High Court against MLA Sanasam Bira of Kumbi AC, MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi AC, MLA Ginsuanhau of Singhat AC, MLA Ngamthang Haokip of Saitu AC, MLA Ksh Biren of Lamlai AC, MLA Paonam Brojen of Wangjing Tentha AC and MLA Y Surchandra of Kakching AC.
The High Court served the notice on the seven MLAs after the motion hearing of the disqualification petitions through video conferencing today.
The Single Bench heard the submission of Senior Advocate N Ibotombi assisted by Bobby Potsangbam appearing for the petitioners.
The Senior Advocate counsel of petitioners submitted that he be permitted to serve notice against the respondents by dasti, to which the Court allowed and directed him to take appropriate steps for serving notice on the respondent MLAs by dasti.
The Court order also mentioned that an endeavour shall be made to dispose the matter in next hearing.
It may be noted that the seven MLAs were elected on Congress tickets but they have been supporting the BJP led State Government.
Recently, the Speaker Tribunal, following the directives of the Supreme Court, had disqualified the then Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar.
