CM sets deadline for food security ordinance

Chief Minister O Ibobi has categorically instructed relevant officials of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department to complete all necessary preparations for implementation of the National Food Security Ordinance by September 30 .
The Chief Minister gave this instruction during a meeting held this afternoon where National Food Security Ordinance and its implementation in the State was deliberated at length.
CAF&PD Minister M Okendro, CAF&PD Commissioner Y Thamkishore, CAF&PD Director M Yaiskul and Deputy Commissioners were present at the meeting presided by the Chief Minister, informed an official source.
The ordinance would benefit 23.87 lakh people out of the total population of Manipur.
Distribution pattern of the likely beneficiaries are 16.82 lakh people in rural areas and 7.05 lakh people in urban areas, as estimated by Central authorities.
Families which do not own four-wheelers and do not pay taxes are eligible to enjoy benefits of the ordinance, said the official.
In addition, families whose annual incomes are less than Rs one lakh, disabled persons and people living with HIV would also get benefits of the ordinance.
They would get 5 Kgs of rice per head at Rs 3 per Kg every month.
Selected beneficiaries would be given National Food Security card.
With no ready made database available for people eligible for the scheme, CAF&PD Department is currently preparing the necessary database, added the source.
