A joint meeting of transporters and police officials was held at the Police Headquarters here today to resolve the problems being faced by the transporters in plying vehicles along the stretch of National Highway 39 from Imphal to Dimapur and laid down certain traffic rules to be followed by all the transporters.
Accordingly, it has been decided that every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays all the Dimapur bound empty trucks/vehicles would be escorted by the State police personnel from Sekmai at 7 am till Mao Gate and from there the escort party of Nagaland would ensure the safety and security of the vehicles and the drivers/handymen till Dimapur, informed joint secretary of All Manipur Road Transporter Drivers and Motor Workers' Union Y Ibobi Singh in a statement.
On the return journey of the same days, the loaded vehicles would be escorted by Nagaland police till Mao Gate from where the State police personnel would take over the charge of bringing back all the vehicles to Imphal safely, the statement said.
The joint meeting presided over by ADGP ( L & O) in-charge Romenkumar Singh further resolved that all the drivers/handymen should ensure that spare tyres and other necessary parts are always carried in their respective vehicles so as to avoid any unwanted break down along the way.
Taking serious note of the misunder-standing between the transporters and the escort personnel which led to some of the empty vehicles proceed without any escort on October 25, the transporters' body pledged to ensure incident do not recur in future, the statement informed.
