The Adventure and Leadership Park developed by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) under the aegis of the Himalayan Environment Trust at Lamdan of Churachandpur district was inaugurated today by Governor Dr SS Sidhu.
Speaking on the inaugural function as chief guest, the Governor compared life to a journey and noted that the highs and lows of life must be faced boldly.
The spirit and the right attitude to tackle the challenges of life need to be inculcated in the minds of the people particularly youngsters, asserted Dr Sidhu.
Games and sports like football, hockey or individual sports including mountaineering, trekking etc not only nurture physical health but also instill sense of sacrifice, oneness and discipline among the youth which in turn make up the essential ingredients of a healthy society and progressive Nation, he observed.
Hailing the initiatives of the Himalayan Environment Trust and MMTA, he said the challenge before MMTA is to develop the park fully and to run it on a no-profit and no-loss basis.
He further exuded confidence that the park would help in moulding the minds of the adventurous Manipuri youth.
The inaugural function was also attended by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Govindas Konthoujam, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya, MLA Manga Vaiphei and Chairman of Himalayan Environment Trust Captain MS Kohli as president and guests of honour.
The adventure park developed by MMTA at Lamdan, about 44 kms away from Imphal is within a 500 acres big premises of the Manipur Mountaineering Institute.
The adventure park has infrastructure for adventure sports like gliding, rope bridge, river crossing, wall climbing etc besides facilities such as spider net, tunnels and monkey round.
