AMADA has managed to crack down on the evasive liquor trade that went along Imphal-Moreh road today.
Altogether 60 half bottles of whisky and 13 cases of beer bottles brought along the route were seized by AMADA.
The six cases of beer bottles were seized from a Tata Sumo ( MN 06L-2669) coming from Moreh at Thoubal while unloading other goods, said AMADA executive member Th Rabango Mangang.
The carrier of the liquor Bala Gangmei (38) of Kakhulong was also held by AMADA volunteers.
However, Bala maintained that the beer bottles belonged to one Gita of Chingmeirong.
On her disclosure, another seven cases of beer bottles were seized from another Tata Sumo in front of the 1st MR gate.
However Gita was not found inside the vehicle.
On further search, 60 half bottles of whisky was also recovered from the Sumo.
The driver of the Sumo held at Thoubal was identified as Thongam Ngouba (24) of Naorem Leikai while the owner was identified as Konsam Sukhesh (35) of Nameirakpam Leikai.
The driver of the second Sumo was identified as Sanatomba.
Rabango informed that Bala had fled taking advantage of AMADA volunteers unloading the beer bottles at its head office.
While asking fled Bala and owners of the apprehended vehicles to give in to AMADA head office by tomorrow, the executive member declared that AMADA would keep strict vigil along Imphal-Moreh road.
