Kohima, October 26:
A day after the Naga civil societies at a joint meeting expressed their views on various issues confronting the Nagas and subsequently put forward their suggestions, the organizer of the joint meet, the Naga Hoho, today came out with a statement in which it called for a better understanding amongst the Naga family through interactive dialogue and confidence-building meetings periodically.
A statement issued jointly by Naga Hoho president Bengdang Jamir and its general secretary Neingulo Krome said listening to various voices of the Naga family, the Naga Hoho observed the intensity of uninhibited tensions expressed by the Naga public, which, "in our perception, may be detrimental to the future course of our history and the formation of a strong and healthy society, if not rectified at its appropriate time".
The Hoho observed that Indo-Naga peace process needs to be further strengthened stating this could come about through a more comprehensive approach of progress dissemination and cohesive representation of various constituencies so that a concrete decision adopted also contributes towards facilitating a permanent solution through the mandate of the people.
The Naga Hoho appreciated the initiatives taken by the Nagaland Baptist Council of Churches (NBCC) in the process of building true peace and stressed on the need for an internal introspection and healing of acrimonious memories which war ravages in order to build a sustainable Nation.
"The Naga Hoho also takes into deepest consideration the dimension of social wounds and historical hurts accrued upon by treating a member(s) of the Naga family with most unbecoming threats.
We strongly express our solidarity with all the Naga communities in expressing our fraternity with the affected members of the family," the statement said.
The Hoho also called upon any Naga national leadership to rationalize its self-alienating attitude of severing of relationship with any Naga civil society organisations.
It reiterated its position that there is no issue of lop-sided approach to its political future and committed its role as a facilitating body for the enhancement of an early and honourable solution.
