Imphal, October 26:
Prolonging the debate arising out of the recent termination of 466 part-time lecturers, Government College Part-Time Lecturers' Association has alleged that Manipur Government had wrongly interpreted guiding rules and regulations on the subject matter.
Accusing the SPF Government of continuing to effect fresh recruitment under the pretext of engaging 'guest lecturer' etc, the Association urged the public to introspect such dubious practice which it speculated is being carried out at the behest of officials with ulterior motive.
Contradicting the Government interpretation of the recent Supreme Court decree, the part-timer lecturers' body contended that nowhere did the apex court passed its verdict to cancel services of part-timers.
The Supreme Court directive pertains to discouraging appointment on temporary basis as such practice would affect higher education in the long run, contended the Association while adding that the Court's gave emphasis on appropriate placing and proper utilisation of part-timers' service.
Rather that adhere to the Court ruling the SPF Government blindly followed misleading information culled from officials with questionable character, opined the Association in the release issued today.
Quoting a recent remark of the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, it said the Congress-ruled State's Chief Minister had announced that services of over 1500 adhoc, work charged and daily wage earners would be regularised as a festival sop to its employees.
Referring to the said remarks, the Association wondered whether ruling/s of the apex court could be interpreted differently in different States or is it another manifestation of SPF Govt's unwillingness to safeguard interest of its citizens.
Expressing strong resentment that SPF Govt is trying to please the party high command rather than redress grievances of the State public, the Association said there is no question of withdrawing its agitation until a logical conclusion had been arrived at.
