Imphal, March 26 2021:
With the talk between the State Government and the Trained Nurses Association (TNA), JNIMS failing to bring an amicable solution on the 7th Pay issue, the nurses of the institute continued their agitation by holding a sit-in protest today.
The representatives of the TNA had met Government officials led by Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar yesterday evening at New Secretariat, Babupara.
However no agreement was reached in the meeting.
It may be noted that the JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences) nurses under the aegis of TNA have been demanding the Government to implement the 7th Pay Commission and they have held various forms of agitation since March 20 .
They have been urging the Government to implement the 7th Pay Commission notionally from January 1, 2016, effective from April 1, 2019 and encashment from April 1, 2021 .
In addition to this, they have also been demanding the authorities concerned to implement the old pension scheme for the employees who had joined JNIMS before 2004 .
Other demands include, creation of various higher nursing posts to meet increasing bed strength, "implementation of MACP to JNIMS staff", revision of nursing allowance and provision for uniform/dress allowance.
Speaking to media persons, TNA, JNIMS general secretary Ph Janapriya Devi decried that the Chief Secretary and the Government representatives failed to give any written assurance to implement the 7th Pay for the nurses.
She asserted that the Government officials gave them only verbal assurance that their demands will be addressed and hinted that the TNA could only trust a written assurance.
The nurses may even refrain from attending patients in the coming days if the Government continues to dodge and turn a deaf ear to their demands, she said.
