Imphal, April 24 2016:
Okram Henry, who is being chargesheeted by the CBI along with three others in connection with seizure of drugs from Imphal Airport, said it was very unfortunate that some people have been attempting to assassinate his political career.
A candidate of the last Assembly election in Wang-khei AC, O Henry while addressing a press meet at his residence located at Mantri- pukhri today said that four persons including himself were charge-sheeted by the CBI in connection with the seizure of drugs at Imphal Airport in 2013 .
Other than the media reports about the CBI filing charge-sheet against them, no summon letter has been sent to them or were taken for interrogation, he said.
Henry said that no official letter/information has been sent to the four persons.
Even if so, since the matter has reached the Court, they have the chance to clarify their position before the Court.
Saying that he had faith in the Constitution and law of the land, Henry maintained that he would stand for the truth.
He added that he was not involved in the case.
He strongly denounced the manner in which his image has been reportedly maligned with the intention to ruin his political career.
O Henry said that the demand through media for resignation of the Govt for alleged involvement of their close relatives in the drug seizure cases after correlating the case with disbanding of SIU and transfer of a police officer was a sign of irrational thinking.
"The disbanding of SIU and transfer of the police officer were not related with me whatsoever," he said.
He also wanted to know which parents had taught their children to do any wrong or encouraged their children to take up drug trafficking business.
People from different areas of Wangkhei AC attended the press meet.
