Health Minister moots proposal for special package

Taking serious note of the extensive damages done by windstorms and hailstones in the last couple of days across the State, Health Minister DK Korungthang has stated that a proposal would be submitted to the Centre for a special package to rehabilitate all the affected people after a proper survey is done.
DK Korungthang went to different places of Chandel district today and made a field assessment of the damages done by windstorms and hailstones.
The Minister was accompanied by Chandel DC, Chandel ADC Vice-Chairman, Tengnoupal Additional SP, Moreh Additional SP, village chiefs, officials and media persons.

Hailstones which hit Teng-noupal caused extensive da- mages to a number of dwelling houses, Tengnoupal po- lice station, Tengnoupal Christian Church, trees and bamboos.
DK Korungthang assured immediate relief measures for people whose houses were completely destroyed.
If necessary, GI sheets would be provided to repair the damaged houses.
For extending immediate relief measures, the State Government has sanctioned Rs one crore.
He also assured all possible assistance to all the affec- ted people residing within Chandel district.
After carrying out a proper survey of the damages done by windstorms and hailstones, the State Government would submit a proposal to the Centre for a special package to rehabilitate all the affected people.
Taking strong exception to the absence of doctors at Tengnoupal PHC when the area is hit by a natural disaster, the Health Minister de- cried the concerned MO's dereliction of duty.
He stated that he would look into the matter and take up befitting action if any lapses are detected.
Admitting that people affected by landslides last year have not been provided any assistance till date, Korungthang further assured that he would invest necessary efforts to ensure that all the affected people get some assistance.
He also lauded KSO Tengnoupal who visited and extended assistance to several villages affected by windstorms and hailstones.
Altogether 145 houses of Khunbi village were affected.
Out of them 15 houses were nearly destroyed and the hapless families have been taking shelter in other houses.
Moreover, many houses of Chabol village, Chabol Primary School, Khunbi Primary School, Khunbi church and Khunbi community hall have also been damaged.
As immediate relief measures, 100 tarpaulins, rice bags and 100 LED lamps were distributed to the affected people by the Minister.
It is reported that hailstones which lashed Tengnoupal area yesterday inflicted injuries upon 12 people including a police personnel.
Many trees and bamboos got snapped or uprooted at Khunbi village thereby impeding movement.
