Imphal, April 24 2016:
I, Hijam Rajesh, Editor, The Sangai Express hereby apologise on behalf of the newspaper, The Sangai Express to the Supreme Court and the Attorney General for the article 'They think they can do whatever they want': Supreme Court urges Centre to prosecute troops punishable for NE encounters (Sangai Express, November 29, 2015).I regret the republication of the article of Mail Today, "Forces under SC fire over fake killings." I accept that it contains factual inaccuracy and withdraw the comments and statements attributed to the Hon'ble Supreme Court and the Attorney General of India.
I affirm the apology/corrigendum published by Mail Today dated December 11, 2015 by which it has stated that, "the statement attributed to the Attorney General that some accidental death may happen during counter insurgency operations by the security forces in the Northeast is inaccurate." The error was inadvertent and there was no intention to misreport court proceedings.
I submit to be careful and exercise necessary precaution and verify any news reports relating to judicial proceedings.
