Alarmed with the likely failure of this years' crops in the current spell of a drought like situation arising due to the absence of monsoon rain, many voluntary organizations have drawn the attention of State Government to take immediate necessary steps to save the withering crops.
Nearly 500 paris of paddy fields at Ningthemcha village have become parched and the grounds have almost cracked up, the Ningthemcha Khul Progressive Youth Club stated urging the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
All the paddy fields at Yumnam Khunou Sheet No.Tupi Area have also become parched due to the heat wave, the Students' Club Yumnam Khunou stated with an appeal to the Government to declare the occurrence of drought in the State.
The club has also called all the owners of the paddy fields to come and see the crops affected by the drought, a statement said.
Most of the crops at the paddy fields at Pourabi and its surrounding villages, such as Sawombung, Wairi, Huidrom, Nungoi and Sawombung Gangma Kabui village have been withering away due to the heat and failure of the monsoon rain.
These paddy fields will not have any harvest during this season, the Pourabi Rising Star Club stated while drawing the attention of the State Government to take immediate remedial measures.
Such a similar situation has also occured at the paddy fields at Telou, Leimakhong Mapan Chonthaba, Seijang, Laikot, Sabungkhok, Yaingangpokpi, Gwaltabi and Thamnapokpi under Lamlai Assembly constituency.
The tenants are worried as the crops are withering away on the parched ground; the Telou-Chana Seijang Gram Panchayat stated asking all the owners to see the affected crops.
