In a last ditch effort to prevent dissolution of the 7th Manipur Assembly, currently under suspended animation, several state legislators are converging on New Delhi to make a last plea with the Central leaders.
MLAs Dr H Borbabu, M Kunjo, and K Govindas left Imphal on the Gauhati flights today along with state BJP unit president M Bhorot Singh.
It is understood they will be raveling on to New Delhi.
Another batch of MLAs, including former chief minister Rishang Keishing and Radhabinod Koijam, former deputy CM Dr L Chandramani, and MPP leader O Joy Singh are also leaving Imphal for New Delhi tomorrow, according to reliable sources.
Some MLAs, talking to this newspaper, said dissolution of fresh elections would be ill-timed, considering the turmoil the state is in.
they stressed that promotion of social harmony among the [people of the hills and valley was the need of the hour, and maintained that he President�s Rule administration would not be able to handle this task.
Holding of fresh elections may crate greater divisions among the peoples of the hills and the valley, they warned.
Therefore, the state�s MLAs had decided at a meeting held earlier to pressurize the Central leaders against dissolution of the 7th Manipur Assembly, they disclosed.
It may be mentioned that Union Home Minister LK Advani had informed Parliament that he state assembly would be dissolved and President�s Rule continued for some time.
He had also stated that fresh elections would be held once the law and order situation in the state improved.
