The United Committee Manipur (UCM) began negotiations with Naga organizations on the issue of indefinite economic blockade on National Highway-39 by some Naga organizations.
AMUCO advisor RK Anand told reporters today that the UCM had held preliminary negotiations with the Naga Hoho, Naga NGOs and other Nagaland based organizations for suspension of the NH-39 blockade,.
He said the Naga organizations have also appealed to the UCM to prevent counter blockades.
The AMUCO advisor further termed the negotiations as the first signs for lifting of the economic blockade.
Meanwhile, three transporter bodies said over 400 truckers stranded at Khatkatti and Bokajan are facing starvation.
In a joint statement they appealed to Naga bodies sponsoring the blockade to relax their bandh for some hours on humanity ground to enable the truckers reach their homes safe and sound.
The Integrated Peoples Progressive Union also appealed for lifting the blockade.
DGP AA Siddiqui said the Government has been providing adequate security to the transporters and it is the transporters� own decision not to resume service.
He said security escort including army, BSF and Manipur Rifles for the vehicles plying on the national highways are being provided twice or thrice a week.
It is now upto the transporters whether they carry on service or not, he added.
Stating that he along with the advisor to the Governor had even gone upto Mao and there seems to be not much of a problem.
�What more can we do,� he asked.
All Manipur Nupi Marup submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging him to take up quick measures of redressing the grievances of the people arising out of the suspension of vehicles services.
