The Manipur University syndicate has endorsed the institution of a three-member probe Team by the Chancellor of the university, Governor Ved Marwah, to look into the functioning of the university.
The syndicate, in a meeting held this afternoon, resolved to ask the probe committee to immediately inspect the university and to inquire into its affairs, in respect of examination procedure, teachers' grievances, departmental infrastructure including lab equipment, and the university library etc.
The university vice chanccllor, H Tombi, has in the mean time appealed to the Manipur University Teachers Association to end their strike and resume duty considering the students' interest as the relevant authorities have taken up the investigation into the charges against himself levelled by the MUTA.
The university syndicate has also appealed to the Manipur University Students Union to refrain from any kind of action which will disturb the university atmosphere until the completion of the enquiry by the three member committee.
Secretary, higher education, IS Laishram, who is a member of the probe committee, said the panel is supposed to submit its report to the Governor within this month.
He also disclosed that the task force earlier constituted by the government has completed collection of relevant information on the university and the final report has been submitted to the Governor.
In the meantime, the MUTA, in a statement, has also welcomed the Governor's decision to institute the inquiry committee as a welcome step towards resolution of the university crisis.
It said it was hopeful of a thorough and impartial inquiry into the key aspects of the university administration and an expeditious completion of the process leading to appropriate and timely corrective measures.
It also expressed its �eager wish� for resumption of normal classes as soon as appropriate preconditions are created, and the committee has been empowered to initiate the process of inquiry into the university affairs.
